Trump 2028? The Path to Authoritarianism—Will Congress Stop It
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
How much more must our democracy endure before Congress takes real action? The failure to hold Trump accountable for his repeated assaults on the Constitution has led us here—on the brink of outright authoritarianism. Now, his allies are publicly floating the abolition of presidential term limits and normalizing the idea of Trump as a permanent ruler, in direct defiance of the 22nd Amendment and everything this country stands for.
Steve Bannon—Trump’s most notorious propagandist—has made it clear that they are working toward this dystopian future. In a recent interview, he explicitly stated that Trump should run in 2028. When confronted with the constitutional impossibility of this, his chilling response was:
“We’re working on it.”
Let me be clear: that is the language of dictatorship.
This is no longer speculation. At CPAC, Trump’s supporters chanted for a third term, making it clear that the movement to dismantle our democracy is no longer confined to whispers in dark rooms—it is a full-fledged, public campaign.
Congress has already failed to act when Trump refused to accept the 2020 election results, spread the Big Lie, and incited an insurrection to overthrow the will of the people. Every time lawmakers chose appeasement over accountability, it emboldened him further. And now, with his allies openly discussing plans to override the Constitution itself, your inaction is no longer just cowardice—it is complicity.
Enough. Congress must draw a line. I demand that you:
1. Publicly denounce any and all efforts to challenge the 22nd Amendment.
2. Push for immediate legislative safeguards to prevent this dangerous rhetoric from materializing into action.
3. Hold Trump and his enablers accountable—before it’s too late.
If Congress refuses to stop this now, history will remember your silence as a betrayal of the American people and the Constitution itself. The world is watching. Will you defend democracy, or will you stand by as it dies?
