An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stand For Sudan & End US Support For UAE

I’m writing to demand urgent action on Sudan. The genocide and mass atrocities happening there cannot be reduced to one administration’s failures or to humanitarian aid cuts alone. Restoring USAID and humanitarian aid is urgent, but it is the bare minimum. Congress must also confront the weapons, money, diplomatic cover, and foreign backing fueling this crisis — including credible evidence of UAE support for the RSF. The United States cannot claim to care about Sudanese lives while continuing to arm, fund, partner with, or protect governments and entities enabling this violence. Congress must support the Stand Up for Sudan Act, S. 935 / H.R. 2059, and go further by ending U.S. complicity. I urge you to: Support and cosponsor the Stand Up for Sudan Act, S. 935 / H.R. 2059, as an immediate floor for congressional action. Strengthen and expand the demands of S. 935 / H.R. 2059 by ending all U.S. arms sales, military aid, security cooperation, intelligence sharing, and diplomatic protection for the UAE. This must not be conditional. The UAE should not continue benefiting from U.S. tax dollars simply because it promises to stop enabling war crimes. Pass S. 935 / H.R. 2059 and support any additional legislation or amendment that cuts off U.S. support to governments, companies, militias, or entities materially supporting atrocities in Sudan. Sanction RSF leaders, SAF leaders, UAE-linked entities, weapons brokers, gold networks, mercenary networks, and all actors violating arms embargoes or obstructing humanitarian aid. Demand full public reporting on U.S. arms sales, intelligence cooperation, security partnerships, and diplomatic support connected to the UAE and other foreign backers of the war. Fully restore and expand humanitarian aid for Sudan, including food, medical care, famine prevention, refugee support, and direct support for Sudanese-led humanitarian organizations. S. 935 / H.R. 2059 is a necessary step, but Congress must not stop at conditional accountability. The UAE should not receive U.S. weapons, military cooperation, intelligence support, diplomatic protection, or taxpayer-backed benefits at all. This cannot be treated as a partisan issue or reduced to criticism of one administration. The U.S. government has leverage, and Congress has a responsibility to use it. Condemning atrocities after the fact is not enough. Restoring aid while continuing to support the governments and networks fueling the killing is not enough. Sudanese people need humanitarian relief, but they also need the world to stop arming and protecting those responsible for their suffering. No U.S. tax dollars, weapons, intelligence, or diplomatic cover should go to the UAE or any actor enabling atrocities in Sudan. Please support S. 935 / H.R. 2059, restore humanitarian aid, and act immediately to end U.S. support for the UAE and all actors enabling mass atrocities in Sudan.
