I am writing to urge you to take a firm stand against the ongoing efforts to dismantle the Department of Education and to oppose the confirmation of any nominee who does not demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting all students, particularly those with disabilities.
The Department of Education plays a crucial role in ensuring that every child in America receives a quality education, regardless of their socioeconomic status or abilities. Stripping it of its power and resources puts millions of students at risk, especially those who rely on federal protections under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Weakening these protections would be a devastating blow to families who depend on the department to enforce their children’s right to a free and appropriate public education.
As your constituent, I am deeply concerned that the administration’s actions will disproportionately harm our most vulnerable students. Any nominee to lead the Department of Education must be committed to upholding and strengthening our public education system—not tearing it down.
I urge you to stand with our students and families by rejecting any nominee who does not have a clear record of advocating for public education and protecting the rights of students with disabilities. Our children deserve better.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response on this critical issue.
