Don’t confirm Todd Blanche — kill slush fund and void racketeering amnesty deal

Senator, Vote no on confirming Todd Blanche as Attorney General. Todd Blanche is tied directly to two deeply corrupt actions: The so-called Anti-Weaponization Fund for payouts to convicted insurrectionists and the Trump tax-settlement addendum. Reporting says the settlement language “forever barred and precluded” the government from pursuing claims and related tax reviews tied to returns filed before the settlement date, and that protection was extended beyond Donald Trump to his family, trusts, businesses, affiliates, subsidiaries, and related companies. That is not a routine settlement. It appears to shield Trump, his children, their spouses, family trusts, the Trump Organization, and a broad web of connected entities from IRS audits, examinations, and related enforcement over past returns. Because the language reaches affiliated individuals and related companies, critics have warned it could sweep across hundreds or even thousands of associates in Trump-linked business structures. This matters for more than taxes. Blocking audits and related reviews can also choke off the paper trail investigators use to trace broader patterns of fraud, conspiracy, false statements, and enterprise-style wrongdoing across networks of people and entities. The cleanest way to say it is this: the deal may not literally say “RICO immunity,” but it can still protect the evidence stream that a broader racketeering-style case would depend on. At the same time, Blanche is tied to the DOJ’s $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund, which was created to compensate people or entities claiming they were victims of “lawfare” or “weaponization”. That fund was widely criticized as a political slush fund because the eligibility language was broad enough to reach Trump allies and potentially January 6 defendants and other grievance claimants chosen through a politicized process. Even now, key Republicans are refusing to advance Blanche without written proof that the fund is dead and that the tax-settlement language is narrowed. Senators John Cornyn and Thom Tillis have stalled the nomination because they say the administration still has not put those promises in writing. That alone should end this nomination. No senator should confirm a nominee for Attorney General while he is tied to a settlement that appears to protect the president, his family, and an undefined universe of affiliates from scrutiny. No senator should confirm a nominee tied to a taxpayer-funded payout scheme for Trump’s political grievances. Vote no on Todd Blanche. End the Anti-Weaponization Fund. Void the Trump tax-amnesty settlement. The Attorney General must serve the law, not Donald Trump’s personal protection racket. Remove Dear Senator,
