The $14.5 Trillion Fact: Why Mass Deportation is Fiscal Suicide

9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am writing to express my profound opposition to the current administration's aggressive immigration enforcement and mass deportation policies. As a constituent, I am deeply concerned by the high human cost of these actions, which are now being compounded by a staggering fiscal cost to the American taxpayer. A recent landmark study by the Cato Institute ("Immigrants' Recent Effects on Government Budgets: 1994–2023") highlights the immense economic contribution of the immigrant community. The study concludes that immigrants and their children have reduced the U.S. national debt by $14.5 trillion over the last 30 years. By continuing the current "deportation mania," the federal government is effectively sabotaging our own economy in two distinct ways: 1.. Direct Fiscal Waste: The massive buildup of detention infrastructure and enforcement personnel is an inefficient use of taxpayer funds that far exceeds what is necessary for public safety. 2.. Loss of Future Revenue: We are forcibly removing individuals who are statistically proven to have higher labor force participation rates than the U.S.-born population, resulting in trillions in lost future tax revenue. The current atmosphere of detention and exclusion is not only a departure from our constitutional values of due process and liberty; it appears to be rooted in exclusionary rhetoric rather than sound policy. I urge you to use your platform to: -- End mass detention and deportation of non-violent individuals who are contributing to our economy and communities. -- Redirect enforcement funding toward a streamlined, humane legal immigration system that allows people to live safely and continue paying into the tax base. -- Champion the original "melting pot" vision of America that rejects discriminatory or racially motivated policy in favor of one that values the dignity and economic potential of every resident. It is time to replace these ill-founded and cruel policies with a strategy that reflects both our economic interests and our highest moral principles. I look forward to hearing how you plan to address these concerns in Congress.
