Friday’s disgraceful event in the Oval Office has left me with a profound sense of sorrow, outrage, and shame. President Zelenskyy is a true leader who is defending his country, and democracy, against a brutal invasion by the dictator Putin. He should be supported in this effort by this nation and its so-called leaders.
Instead, he was treated to a shameful episode of bullying, lying, and humiliation by Trump and Vance, who proved themselves the far lesser men in that hideous exchange. Rather than pledging their support to Ukraine, they attempted to extort President Zelenskyy for the enrichment of Trump and the glory of Putin.
Once upon a time, this country opposed dictators and sought to promote and defend democracy wherever and however it could. No more. Now we align ourselves with the likes of Russia, North Korea, Hungary, and every other despotic kleptocracy on the planet. All so Trump can look “strong” and Vance can look “masculine.”
We have become a disgrace. Trump’s subservience to Putin has destroyed our standing in the world. How long will you look the other way? How long will you support your mad orange god as he destroys this nation?
You are a sitting member of Congress. You have a voice. Use it. No kings. No tyrants. Not ever.
For God’s sake, take a stand and defend this nation!
