An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Please explain - Where is the money?

9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am writing to demand a straight answer—without spin, without excuses—for the blatant and insulting contradictions in our federal budget priorities. We are told again and again that there is “no money” for affordable healthcare, no money for food assistance, no money for public schools, no money for basic human dignity for the American people. Yet like clockwork, there is always money for political perks, luxury travel, and high-profile leisure activities for those in power. If Congress truly believes this country “can’t afford” essential programs that millions rely on to survive, then explain how taxpayer dollars somehow can cover frequent presidential leisure travel—trips that come with massive staffing, security, transportation, and logistical costs. These are expenses paid by the very Americans you tell to brace for benefit cuts, delays, or outright denials. How is that remotely justifiable? You cannot look struggling families in the eye and claim there is no money for healthcare—while medical debt forces people into bankruptcy—and then quietly green-light budgets that swallow the cost of repeated, non-essential travel for elected officials. You cannot tell America’s children that their schools must limp along with outdated textbooks, crumbling buildings, and chronic understaffing while federal funds disappear into unnecessary government-funded leisure events. You cannot tell hungry Americans that food assistance must be slashed in the name of “fiscal responsibility” while taxpayers foot the bill for weekend political travel. Call it what it is: not fiscal responsibility, but fiscal hypocrisy. I am demanding a full, transparent accounting of how Congress justifies claiming poverty when it comes to programs that keep Americans alive, educated, and fed—yet remains silent when funds are funneled into non-essential extravagance for political figures. The American people deserve the truth. They deserve honesty. And they deserve to know why their needs are consistently treated as expendable. Explain this contradiction. Now.
