An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose Military Deployments to American Cities

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to block the deployment of military troops and federal agents to American cities and to hold the administration accountable for these dangerous overreach actions. Recent deployments have brought federalized National Guard troops, federal agents, and active-duty Marines to Los Angeles in response to protests against mass deportation campaigns. The administration temporarily seized control of Washington D.C.'s police department and deployed D.C. National Guard troops along with troops from other states to patrol our nation's capital. Armed federal agents and military troops have also been sent to Memphis and Portland. These deployments represent an alarming abuse of presidential power designed to create fear in major American communities. The justifications offered are manufactured emergencies built on false crime statistics, villainization of immigrants, and baseless claims that peaceful protest constitutes insurrection. Sending armed military forces into our cities is both unjustified and dangerous. Regardless of what uniforms they wear, federal agents and military troops remain bound by the Constitution. They must uphold our fundamental rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of speech, due process, and protections against unlawful searches and seizures. The presence of military forces on American streets threatens these constitutional guarantees and sets a dangerous precedent for future administrations. Congress has the constitutional authority and responsibility to check executive overreach. I am asking you to use every legislative tool available to block these domestic military deployments and prevent what amounts to martial law in American cities. Our communities need local accountability and constitutional protections, not armed troops patrolling our streets. I urge you to take a clear public stand against these deployments and to pursue oversight hearings and legislative action to ensure this administration cannot continue militarizing our cities. Our democracy depends on maintaining the line between civilian governance and military force.
