Bar Insurrectionists!

The Constitution is clear: Insurrectionists are not allowed to serve in Congress.1 But Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert, and other MAGA members of Congress who aided and encouraged the January 6 white supremacist insurrection are preparing to be sworn in on January 3, 2023. To actually bar insurrectionist Republicans from being sworn in, a member of Congress must challenge their qualifications during the swearing-in ceremony. Section 3 of the 14th Amendment is clear: Any person who has previously sworn an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and who later engages in an insurrection against the United States or provides aid or comfort to its enemies is permanently disqualified from holding future public office.2 Now is the time for representatives of good conscience to do their job, uphold the Constitution, and bar any and all insurrectionists from serving in Congress.
