The separation of church and state is a cornerstone of American democracy, enshrined in the First Amendment's Establishment Clause. However, the current administration's actions threaten to erode this foundational principle. By relentlessly pandering to a narrow religious base, promoting religious privilege, and undermining secular governance, the administration is jeopardizing the rights and liberties of all Americans. We must safeguard the secular nature of our Constitution and government institutions. Allowing the entanglement of religion and state opens the door to discrimination, oppression of minority faiths and non-believers, and the imposition of a particular religious worldview on a pluralistic society. A true commitment to religious freedom means keeping the state neutral on matters of faith. This concerning trajectory, from shamelessly merchandising an "Inauguration Day Bible" to granting sweeping exemptions to discriminate under the guise of "religious liberty," cannot be allowed to continue. We call for a steadfast defense of the separation of church and state, halting efforts to elevate one religion over others or enshrine religious doctrine into law and policy. Only by maintaining a secular government can we preserve the rights and freedoms promised to all Americans, regardless of their beliefs.
