Congress is enabling preventable deaths on a catastrophic scale. STOP this now

This Congress is presiding over an explosion of preventable deaths caused by cuts to established programs. One name this is depraved heart murder. True, you have not built execution chambers. But you are enabling preventable deaths. Consider the deaths caused across the world by Musk’s attack of USAID. I paraphrase from Heather Cox Richardson: [Musk] 'slashed about 80% of its grants, killing about 103 people an hour, most of them children. The total so far is about 300,000 people, according to Boston University infectious disease mathematical modeller Dr. Brooke Nichols. Ryan Cooper of The American Prospect reported today that about 1,500 babies a day are born HIV-positive because Musk’s cuts stopped their mothers’ medication.' Remember that Musk's destruction of that Congressionally mandated agency was illegal: Congress enabled those deaths by failing to do oversight to defend its constitutionally vested powers. Now consider the effects of the House's big budget bill. Confronted about them yesterday, Senator Joni Ernst said "we are all going to die anyway." Do you endorse this attitude? Did you forget about life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness in the constitution? I am sure you know the CBO projection that House reconciliation bill 'will cause 1.38 million low-income Medicare beneficiaries to lose Medicaid coverage. This will likely lead to over 18,000 avoidable deaths per year stemming from loss of drug subsidies.' I could mention other death-dealing policies of this administration: enabling air and water pollution, stopping the national weather monitoring and forecasting agency, cutting standards for food safety and food inspection, failing to respond proactively to a measles outbreak until it turned into many; allowing vaccine hesitancy to spread unchecked, allowing funds for avian flu pandemic preparations and research contracts to be cut. Then there are the individual stories evil: of medically fragile children deported away from life-saving treatment here. They will die. So many deaths enabled by this Congress. This Congress is an elected body that has yielded its powers: it is complicit in a regime of contempt for life and health, causing hundreds, thousands, centrally perhaps millions of preventable deaths. Have you no conscience or decency? Let me close with a statistic from Nature: Nature published an article showing that 25 million people could die as a result of ending USAID. "This puts Trump and Musk in the category of the most brutal leaders of the 20th century in terms of unnecessary lives lost." www.nature.com/articles/d41.
