An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Trump's Consolidation of Power

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

This executive order represents a dangerous overreach of executive power that threatens the independence of critical agencies like the FCC, FTC, and SEC. These agencies were intentionally designed by Congress to operate independently from the White House to prevent political interference in areas vital to a fair market and open communications. Subjecting them to direct presidential control undermines their core purpose and opens the door to cronyism, regulatory capture by special interests, and the prioritization of partisan agendas over the public good. We must uphold the system of checks and balances enshrined in our Constitution. Consolidating this much regulatory authority under the president's unilateral control is anti-democratic and hazardous to free markets, consumer protections, and a free press. I urge you to take immediate action through legislation or legal challenges to block this assault on good governance and preserve the institutional safeguards that promote transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. The independence of these agencies is essential for a healthy democracy and thriving economy that serves all Americans, not just those with connections to the White House.
