Co-sponsor bill to stop censoring books and curricula in DoD schools

I am writing to demand that the Department of Defense stop its unconstitutional censorship of books and curricula that the current administration deems politically incorrect for school children in Department of Defense Education Activity schools. The bill recently introduced by Rep. Raskin would keep the Secretary of Defense from unilaterally censoring what students can learn – and as your constituent, I'm calling on you to cosponsor this critical bill.
Schools have censored materials about slavery, Native American history, women's history, LGBTQ identities and history, and preventing sexual harassment and abuse, as well as portions of the Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology curriculum. These materials go beyond ensuring students feel safe and included in class – they are critical components of a well-rounded education.
Classroom censorship has already harmed students' ability to prepare for exams, learn about their neighbors and peers, get an education that prepares them for college, and see themselves in their curriculum. And while these policies put our students' education in jeopardy, they also violate their First Amendment right to receive information.
These are some of the most diverse and high-performing schools in the nation – we should not lose our competitive edge due to petty political games. We owe it to these students to help them learn and grow, not stifle their ability to learn about ideas this administration happens to deem politically inconvenient. And we owe it to the military families serving our nation to ensure their children are taught at the highest standard. Please cosponsor the bill to end book bans in DoD schools and stop the unconstitutional censorship now.
