I am alarmed by the continual assaults on our fair access to the ballot perpetrated by Trump, now also SCOTUS and former confederate states.
I am also aghast that the GOP refused to pass a law against gerrymandering. It is no less alarming that many GOP pushed the voter suppression SAVE act and circulated lies about elections in order to undermine public trust and gin up suspicion against immigration.
Now Trump's wish to put his thumb on the scales in November is clear to all.
Most recently he has been talking about sending an army to the polls.
Steve Bannon has also declared his support for ICE presence at the polls.
The persistent attempts at seizing ballots and electoral rolls by Trump's lackeys should alarm everyone.
Today I ask you to make certain kinds of interference at polling places into federal crimes.
--- Ban third-party voter challenges and other forms of vigilantism.
---- Provide criminal and civil remedies for voter intimidation.
-- reinforce existing bans on law enforcement, ICE and military presence at the polls.
While elections are administered by the states, there is no doubt that Trump will be scheming to exclude or suppress persons and districts who will be unfavorable to him.
In addition to protecting the polls from interference, I ask you to begin impeachment proceedings against Trump in the house now, or seek otherwise to remove him by amendment 14.3.
His high crimes and misdemeanors are too numerous to list.
At the same time, he could also be quickly removed by the constitution's amendment against insurrectionists, amendment 14.3. This route to removal would avoid the need for a lengthy impeachment trial.
Section 3 of the 14th amendment states:
"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."
I urge my house representative to make a privileged resolution to remove Trump by 14.3.
