Condemn Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric and Uphold Equality

3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am deeply concerned about the recent anti-LGBTQ statements made by Congresswoman Nancy Mace, particularly her tweet "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve." Such rhetoric is not only hurtful but also represents a dangerous backslide in our nation's progress towards equality and inclusion. It's alarming to see Rep. Mace, who previously supported LGBTQ rights, now express homophobic views. In 2022, she voted to protect same-sex couples and made statements supporting LGBTQ equality. This apparent shift raises questions about political motivations overshadowing principles of human rights and dignity. The attempt to separate gay rights from trans rights is misguided and threatens the solidarity of the LGBTQ community. We must recognize that the current anti-trans movement is part of a broader conservative strategy to roll back LGBTQ rights as a whole. This is not just about one group; it's about the fundamental American values of equality and freedom from discrimination. I urge you to take a strong stand against this divisive rhetoric. Publicly condemn these statements and reaffirm your commitment to protecting the rights of all LGBTQ individuals. Introduce or support legislation that strengthens protections for the LGBTQ community in areas such as employment, housing, and healthcare. We cannot afford to regress to a time of open discrimination. The cost is too high – in human suffering, in the erosion of our social fabric, and in the message it sends to young LGBTQ individuals struggling for acceptance. Your leadership is crucial in ensuring that our country moves forward, not backward, on the path to equality. I ask you to act swiftly and decisively. Speak out against this harmful rhetoric, engage with LGBTQ advocacy groups to understand their concerns, and use your position to foster a more inclusive and accepting society. The eyes of your constituents, and indeed the nation, are upon you. Let your actions reflect the best of American values – equality, respect, and dignity for all.
