I’m writing to you not as a cynic but as a neighbor who still believes we can do better. I’m part of a generation that has seen a lot of institutional failure, but we’re also watching towns and states step up to do what Washington can’t or won’t. That’s why I’m asking you to lead boldly on a few critical fronts:
Interstate compacts that let us bypass federal gridlock and actually deliver for people.
Publicly owned revenue streams (think community broadband, public banks, or renewable energy utilities) that generate funds without raising taxes.
High-density, genuinely affordable public housing so teachers, nurses, service workers, and young families aren’t priced out of our own neighborhoods.
Accountability for federal agents: arrest and prosecute any who conduct warrantless abductions without identification, and hold local officers accountable if they stand by instead of intervening. Nobody is above the law.
These aren’t radical ideas; they’re practical steps to safeguard our quality of life, strengthen democracy at home, and show the rest of the country what real leadership looks like.
Please be the one who chooses courage over complacency. My friends and I are watching, voting, volunteering, and organizing because we want a future worth staying for. We need leaders who will match that energy.
