Urgent Request to Halt Government Purchases from Elon Musk-Owned Companies

I am writing to express my deep concern over the U.S. government’s ongoing financial engagements with companies owned by Elon Musk, particularly in light of the Pentagon’s recent decision to purchase Cybertrucks from Tesla. Given Musk’s significant influence over multiple industries—ranging from defense to communications and space exploration—continuing these contracts raises serious ethical and national security concerns.
Musk’s business empire, which includes Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, holds a growing monopoly on critical sectors. SpaceX, for instance, has received billions in government contracts for space transport and satellite services. Similarly, Starlink has been leveraged for military and humanitarian purposes, despite Musk’s unilateral decisions about its availability in conflict zones. His control over these assets gives him an outsized influence over U.S. military operations, which presents a direct conflict of interest.
The Pentagon’s Cybertruck purchase further exemplifies the problematic nature of these arrangements. Tesla’s vehicles are unproven in military applications, and awarding contracts to Musk-owned firms without sufficient competition risks sidelining other American companies that could provide superior or more secure alternatives. Additionally, his unpredictable leadership—demonstrated through controversial statements and erratic policy decisions—adds another layer of risk to government reliance on his enterprises.
Given these factors, I urge Congress to take immediate action to:
1. Suspend all pending and future contracts with Musk-owned businesses until a full ethics and security review is conducted.
2. Investigate potential conflicts of interest in existing government contracts with Musk’s companies.
3. Diversify government partnerships to prevent over-reliance on any single corporate entity, especially one controlled by a private individual with significant personal and financial influence.
Our national security and economic policies must be shaped by the best interests of the American people—not the ambitions of a single billionaire. I respectfully ask you to advocate for greater scrutiny, accountability, and transparency in government procurement practices.
Thank you for your time and service to our country. I look forward to your response on this critical issue.
