Support Inflation Reduction Act, EV Incentives, and Ending Tariff Uncertainty

I am writing to urge you to support the Inflation Reduction Act, maintain strong incentives for electric vehicles (EVs), and put an end to the policy chaos surrounding tariffs. As Ford CEO Jim Farley recently pointed out, the unpredictable and ever-changing tariff rhetoric is creating unnecessary costs, instability, and uncertainty for American businesses—particularly in the auto industry. This lack of clarity is not only harming U.S. manufacturers but is also providing an unfair advantage to European and Asian competitors.
The Inflation Reduction Act and EV incentives are critical to ensuring the U.S. remains at the forefront of the global shift toward clean transportation. EV adoption is growing rapidly, with global sales surpassing 10 million last year. Meanwhile, China and Europe are aggressively investing in EV production and infrastructure, positioning themselves as leaders in this economic revolution. If we fail to provide consistent policy support for American EV manufacturers, we will fall behind, losing jobs, innovation, and economic opportunity to foreign markets.
Tariff instability further exacerbates this risk. Farley has made it clear that the current administration’s tariff threats, particularly the proposal to impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada, would be disastrous for U.S. companies operating in North America. These policies introduce excessive costs and uncertainty, making it harder for American automakers to compete globally. Rather than imposing restrictive tariffs, we need policies that foster innovation, encourage domestic EV production, and provide consumers with the incentives necessary to accelerate EV adoption.
I urge you to support legislation that upholds EV tax credits, strengthens domestic clean energy manufacturing, and eliminates unnecessary trade barriers that harm American industry. The U.S. cannot afford to lag behind while the rest of the world moves forward. Let’s ensure we remain leaders in the future of mobility and energy.
Thank you for your time and leadership on this crucial issue. I look forward to your response.
