Uphold human rights and dignity for migrants in custody

The inhumane treatment of migrants in federal custody is a grave violation of human rights and dignity. Reports from prison officers of alarming conditions and lack of basic necessities are deeply troubling. As public servants entrusted with upholding human rights, we have an ethical imperative to ensure all individuals, regardless of immigration status, are treated humanely and with respect, provided adequate food, water, medical care and sanitation. Failing to do so undermines our nation's values, human decency, and commitment to protecting the inherent dignity of every person. I urge you to conduct rigorous oversight hearings and take immediate corrective action to uphold the fundamental rights of these vulnerable people in federal custody. Allowing such cruelty to persist is unacceptable and a stain on our collective conscience. We must do the right thing and be a voice for human rights for all.
