An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Combating the Rise of Political Violence and Safeguarding Democracy

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen, alarmed by the escalating rhetoric and acts that encourage political violence within our nation. The increasing prevalence of threats and actions, especially those linked to high-profile figures and some political groups, is deeply troubling. These concerns are not abstract; they are manifested in the increasing instances of "swatting" – a perilous misuse of law enforcement resources and a threat to public safety. This tactic not only endangers innocent lives but also erodes trust in our democratic institutions and the rule of law. I believe it is the responsibility of our elected officials to actively and vocally oppose such acts and rhetoric. While I do not have a specific action to request, I urge you, as my representative, to use your platform and influence to address these issues head-on. Our democracy thrives on civil discourse and the peaceful resolution of differences. It is imperative that Congress takes a stand to protect these values. I look forward to your response and to seeing your efforts in ensuring our community and nation remain a safe place where democracy is respected and cherished. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
