The Crown is Heavy, and It Must Fall   An Open Letter to the President of the United States and Members of Congress   Donald Trump has called himself a king. A king does not serve the people. A king rules over them. Kings do not answer to laws, to elections, or to justice. They demand absolute loyalty, twist the truth to fit their ambitions, and crush those who oppose them. And you have let it happen.   The United States was not built for kings. It was built by revolutionaries who toppled them. And now, you—members of Congress, sworn defenders of the Constitution—stand by while a man who would be king drags this nation toward ruin.   We have seen this before. Louis XVI surrounded himself with sycophants, drowned France in debt, and ignored the cries of the people. He believed he was untouchable—until he was not. The guillotine was not just about punishment; it was about restoring a nation to its rightful owners: the people.   “Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.” —Jean-Jacques Rousseau You, members of Congress, have the power to break those chains. And yet you have done absolutely nothing. No hearings. No real investigations. No meaningful legislation. You sit there, hoping this all somehow resolves itself, while Trump dismantles the Republic in broad daylight. Do you think history will not judge you? Do you think the people will not remember?   “Tyranny must be destroyed so that freedom may live.” —Maximilien Robespierre Trump has already tried to overturn an election. He has installed loyalists, demanded personal allegiance, and incited mobs to keep himself in power. And what have you done? Nothing. You have watched. You have calculated. You have waited, hoping someone else will bear the burden of saving democracy. That is not leadership. That is cowardice.   “A nation can have no greater enemy than a king who does not serve it.” —Marquis de Lafayette Here is the deal. This is your last warning. History does not remember those who watched tyranny rise and did nothing. Either you act—NOW—or the people will do what you refuse to do. And when that happens, when the dam finally breaks, you will not get to feign surprise. You will not get to claim you never saw it coming. You have had every opportunity to stop this, and you have wasted every single one.   Timothy Snyder warned us in On Tyranny: “Do not obey in advance.” Fascism does not seize power—it is handed power by those too weak to resist. That is you. If you fail to stand up now, you are not leaders. You are enablers. You are traitors.   This is not politics. This is survival.   Congress, the choice is yours: defend democracy or stand aside. Because the people will not wait forever.     “When a government violates the rights of the people, insurrection is, for the people and for each portion of the people, the most sacred of rights and the most indispensable of duties.” —Marquis de Lafayette
