Reject SAVE/MEGA Acts - Pass Freedom to Vote Act

I urge you to reject the SAVE Act and MEGA Act and instead support the Freedom to Vote Act. Rather than making voting harder and punishing marginalized groups and women, we need legislation that strengthens our democracy and protects the right to vote. The SAVE Act and MEGA Act would create barriers for millions of eligible voters. According to the Brennan Center for Justice, 21 million Americans lack readily accessible citizenship documents. Women whose married names don’t match their birth certificates would face particular hardships. These bills would disproportionately harm young voters, voters of color, rural communities, and people with disabilities. Instead, Congress should pass the Freedom to Vote Act, which would: • Make Election Day a federal holiday so all Americans can participate • End partisan gerrymandering by establishing clear, uniform redistricting rules • Combat voter suppression laws by setting baseline national standards for ballot access • Require 15 days of early voting including two weekends • Expand voting access through automatic voter registration and Election Day registration • Increase election security with national standards for voter-verified paper ballots • Implement reasonable voter ID standards with alternatives like utility bills or bank statements • Require voting machines to be made in the United States • Protect nonpartisan election officials from partisan interference • Shine a light on dark money by requiring disclosure from organizations spending in elections • Make it harder for billionaires and special interests to buy elections Our democracy is strongest when every eligible citizen can participate freely and fairly. I urge you to oppose the SAVE Act and MEGA Act, and instead pass the Freedom to Vote Act to protect and strengthen American democracy.
