Urgent: Oppose School Vouchers – Fund Texas Public Schools
School vouchers take money from already underfunded public schools, which serve over 90% of Texas students. Texas ranks 43rd in per-student spending (educationdata.org/public-education-spending-statistics), yet vouchers would further drain resources, worsening teacher shortages and declining academic performance. States like Arizona and Wisconsin have seen vouchers benefit wealthier families while leaving public schools struggling (brookings.edu/articles/research-on-school-vouchers-suggests-concerns-ahead-for-education-savings-accounts).
Vouchers hurt rural communities the most, where public schools are the only option. Private schools are scarce, can deny students based on income or disability, and are unaccountable to taxpayers. Even rural Republicans oppose them because they know vouchers weaken local schools (texastribune.org/2023/10/18/texas-school-voucher-republicans-abbott). Texans have rejected vouchers before—focus on funding public schools, raising teacher pay, and improving infrastructure instead. Vote no on school vouchers.
