This proposed rule to ban transgender women from using women's bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol is discriminatory and goes against principles of equality and human rights. Transgender people should be able to access bathrooms that align with their gender identity without facing harassment or exclusion. Studies have consistently shown that protecting transgender people's access to bathrooms does not increase safety risks. In fact, this type of discriminatory legislation often leads to further marginalization and harm against an already vulnerable group. I urge you to reject this misguided rule and instead focus on real issues that improve people's lives, such as lowering costs for housing, healthcare, and childcare as Rep. McBride highlighted. Trans people, like all Americans, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Passing this rule would send a harmful message of intolerance. I ask that you vote against this discriminatory bathroom policy and stand up for the rights and wellbeing of your transgender constituents.
