Address the human rights violations by Governor Abbott immediately

All I am horrified at the human rights abuses perpetrated by Governor Gregg Abbot toward refugee and immigrant-seeking people. These are PEOPLE who have endured tragedies and are seeking their protected right to migrate and apply for immigration status in the United States. It is cruel to use humans as props in any way and Governor Abbot should be censured for doing so. However, the events on Christmas Eve are extremely dangerous. It is not acceptable for the Federal Government to look away from human rights abuses occurring at the State level. I ask you to use the variety of Congressional and executive power available to you to publicly reprimand Governor Abbott AND prevent any additional coercions to occur to those waiting at the border for legal access. I also encourage you to substantially add to the budget monies available to more quickly help people access their legal rights. With increasing pressures on the Global South, largely due to economic and climate crises disproportionately caused by the United States and Global North, we must prepare for a totally different reality in relation to migration, sharing our resources, and preventing mass displacements of people. The time to start changing our culture our public policy is NOW. We must simultaneously protect human rights for everyone, always, and develop a national immigration policy that is fair, sustainable, well communicated and consistent, and keeps families together . Please issue immediate consequences to Governor Abbot, immediate urgent resources for families at risk today, and commit to prioritizing a longer term plan.
