Joint Session of Congress - Demand for Action Against Fascism —Not Just Words

I am writing as a deeply concerned constituent who is watching in real-time as our democracy is undermined, our alliances are strained, and our country is pushed closer to authoritarianism. Last night’s joint session of Congress made it painfully clear that Donald Trump and his enablers are emboldened, unchallenged, and intent on dismantling the very institutions that hold this republic together. Yet, instead of forceful action, too many Democratic leaders—including you—continue to play by outdated rules, relying on statements and constituent calls instead of using the power we elected you to wield.
While Representatives Al Green, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Jasmine Crockett stood up and fought back, the silence and inaction from the majority of the Democratic caucus were deafening. Where was the urgent response? Where was the coordinated resistance? And why do so many of our elected officials continue to treat this moment as if it is politics as usual?
Your role as a representative is to act on our behalf—not to defer that responsibility to us when you have the means to fight directly. If you are unwilling to hold an in-person town hall or engage with your constituents in a meaningful way, then at the very least, you owe us bold, decisive leadership in Washington. That means using every procedural tool at your disposal, refusing to legitimize Trump’s power grabs, and calling out the enablers—including Elon Musk—who are actively working to erode democracy.
The people you represent are not looking for polite disagreement; we are looking for leaders who are willing to meet this crisis with the urgency and courage it demands. The time for half-measures is over. I urge you to stop passing the burden to us and start using the power you were elected to wield. If you won’t, rest assured that we will find someone who will.
