Don’t Cave to Trumps Prosecution Threats on Immigration (or anything)

Trump has told his justice department to prosecute state and local officials who don’t cooperate with his immigration policies, but federal law does not obligate state and local governments or law enforcement to enforce immigration law. That is the purview of the federal government. He’s just trying to see who he can scare into going along with him. If he discovers he can’t just push local governments around, he will back off. With regards to immigration and other demands from Trump, the best posture to have is “what law says I have to do this?” Don’t comply in advance.
