The President incited a violent insurrection that resulted in 5 deaths, including a Capitol Police officer brutally beaten to death by rioters in the service of defending you and your colleagues. Today, he characteristically expressed no remorse for the loss of human life and threat to hundreds of public servants. He must be removed from office, prevented from ever holding public office again, and investigated for his crimes.
The congressional leaders who are counseling against impeachment, citing a risk of angering his followers, are pandering to far-right extremist terrorists. This will not end unless we bring this tyrant and his unhinged followers to swift and comprehensive justice. I fear failure to send the strongest message that violence and hatred will not be tolerated will result in civil war. Your colleagues engaging in the support of this tyrant must also be investigated and removed or censured.
