An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Oppose HR1579: Reject Discrimination Against Trans House Staff

I am writing in strong opposition to HR1579, which would ban employees of the U.S. House of Representatives from using bathrooms and changing rooms in the Capitol and House Office Buildings that align with their gender identity.
This bill is a blatant act of workplace discrimination targeting transgender and nonbinary staff. It would create a hostile, unsafe environment for employees simply trying to do their jobs with dignity. No one should be forced to choose between their livelihood and their identity—or fear punishment for using a bathroom.
Trans and nonbinary people are already underrepresented in government. HR1579 further marginalizes them and sends a chilling message that their presence is unwelcome. It contradicts basic principles of equality, safety, and respect in the workplace.
I urge you to reject HR1579 and any legislation that legitimizes transphobia within the halls of government. Every person who serves the House deserves to be treated with dignity, not targeted for who they are.
