The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) overnight staffing cuts pose a serious threat to public safety. Eliminating nighttime operations at numerous Weather Service offices across the country undermines the agency's ability to provide timely and accurate forecasts, especially during critical weather events. The recent red flag warning in California underscores the grave consequences of compromising crucial meteorological data and alerts. As severe storms and natural disasters intensify due to climate change, reliable weather forecasting becomes increasingly vital for protecting lives and property. Ensuring NOAA and the National Weather Service are fully staffed and funded is a matter of national security. Reinstate the terminated employees and allocate sufficient resources to maintain round-the-clock monitoring and reporting capabilities. Weather hazards do not adhere to a 9-to-5 schedule, and neither should the nation's meteorological operations.
