Vote NO — This Budget Will Hurt Millions of Americans
I’m writing with urgency to urge you to vote NO on the federal budget bill now moving through the Senate. This bill would have devastating consequences for millions of Americans and threatens the health, security, and livelihoods of families in every state.
Cuts That Will Cost Lives
This bill proposes the largest cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, and the Affordable Care Act in U.S. history. If passed, millions of Americans will lose their health care, and independent estimates warn that tens of thousands of preventable deaths will occur every year as a direct result.
A Direct Attack on Rural Hospitals and Health Care Access
These cuts would force hundreds of rural hospitals to shut down nationwide, cutting off lifesaving care and wiping out critical jobs. Entire communities could be left without hospitals.
The Worst Attack on Food Assistance in 50 Years
This bill slashes SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) by nearly $300 billion, pushing millions—including children, seniors, and veterans—into food insecurity. Families who depend on this support will be left scrambling to survive.
Punishing Working Families—Not the Wealthy
This isn’t about reducing waste. The bill forces working Americans to fight through impossible bureaucratic barriers just to keep basic necessities like food and health care. At the same time, it hands enormous tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans—an average of $61,000 per year for the top 1%, while the bottom 20% receive just $160 on average. (This figure comes from the nonpartisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy’s analysis of the bill’s tax provisions.) For many working families, even that meager amount will be wiped out by higher prices from new tariffs.
A Full-Blown Economic Disaster
These cuts aren’t just cruel—they’re economically reckless. Analysts warn they will destroy over a million jobs, shrink state economies, and destabilize rural and urban communities alike.
This bill will cause real harm to real people. Lives are at stake. Jobs are at stake. Communities are at stake. I urge you to vote NO.
