As your constituent, I’m urging you to vote NO on H.R. 1 and ANY reconciliation package that threatens public lands or clean energy investments.
H.R. 1 is a dangerous bill that would put our environment and our communities at risk by:
- Undermining clean energy tax incentives, which are already creating thousands of American jobs and lowering household energy costs.
- Opening our public lands across the West to oil, gas, and mining development, which will jeopardize public access, outdoor recreation, and the economic lifeline they provide to rural communities, while degrading air quality, and permanently harming critical lands and waters.
71% of Americans oppose privatizing public lands, while 63% support transitioning the U.S. economy (including electric utilities, transportation, buildings, and industry) from fossil fuels to 100% clean energy.
H.R. 1 would give oil, gas, and coal companies more access to public lands while cutting back on rules that protect the environment. It brings back drilling and mining in places like Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico, allows more logging on public lands, and makes it harder for the public to challenge harmful projects. At the same time, it slashes funding for national parks and programs that help protect clean air, water, and wildlife.
H.R.1 also takes aim at clean energy. It eliminates tax credits that help people afford electric cars and solar panels, and cuts programs that support wind, solar, and battery jobs. Meanwhile, H.R. 1 gives big handouts to big oil and gas companies and makes it harder for the government to hold polluters accountable. Instead of investing in a healthy future, this bill prioritizes profits for polluters, leaving Americans to suffer the consequences in the form of higher electricity prices, polluted air and water, fewer rights, and less access to outdoor recreation.
Please vote NO on H.R. 1 to protect the places we love and the clean energy future we need.
