An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Troops Do Not Belong in American Streets

12 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

As a constituent, I'm sharing my concern about the Trump administration's federal deployments of troops to U.S. cities and urge you to support the Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act. The Military in Law Enforcement Accountability Act, crafted by combat veteran Senator Tammy Duckworth, would draw a necessary brighter line between the military and civilian law enforcement, enhance oversight of operations that deploy the military domestically, and require federal forces to identify themselves when they are on our streets. National Guard members signed up to serve their communities, not be political chess pieces for Trump. Any attempt to deploy the military domestically for civilian law enforcement endangers our service members, our communities, and our freedoms. Congress must act to pass legislation that clearly restricts when and how a president can deploy the National Guard, strengthens meaningful oversight, and creates real consequences for illegal actions.
