An open letter to the U.S. Congress

End US Support for Israel’s Criminal War and Immoral Atrocities.

The legislative work of United States representatives by offering unchecked support for Israel is shaping Israel's violent occupation and siege of Palestine. I also condemn the actions of the Hamas led assault in Israel on October 7th that claimed 1200 lives of civilians and service members and I support an immediate release of all the hostages. While there is a case for a military response, the relentless air and ground campaign in Gaza is a crime against humanity. The case for war does not excuse atrocities against civilians or the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. Israel does not have the right to go to war against innocent men, women and children. Israel does not have the right to conduct indiscriminate bombing campaigns. Israel's military campaign will be remembered as an atrocity with a toll and suffering far exceeding other conflicts with thousands of people killed, many more injured, mass starvation, dehydration and widespread disease. The death toll will be higher counting the thousands of bodies trapped under rubble. Add to this the deaths of humanitarian workers and reporters, alongside the targeting of critical life supporting infrastructure. Despite U.S. coordination, UN facilities have been hit and tens of thousands of residences are completely destroyed leaving most of the population displaced with nowhere safe to go. To put this in perspective, the destruction of Gaza is equivalent to the two year bombing campaign against Dresden and this nightmarish threshold has been passed in two months. The constant bombardment has made it impossible for aid groups to function in Gaza. The sum of Israel's actions constitute not just a man made catastrophe but a mass atrocity being enacted with thousands of bombs and equipment supplied by the United States and subsidized by American taxpayers. This support has been provided with full knowledge of the slaughter it would wreak in a dense populace. You must acknowledge that Israel's widespread use of massive explosives in populated areas is being waged at a cost America's taxpayers and international standing. The United States government has not been successful in mediating this conflict and the time has come to end our complicity in Israel's immoral actions that are in violation of international humanitarian law. It would be irresponsible to provide an additional $10.1 billion in military aid beyond defensive systems as this would allow for the continuation of the Netanyahu government's indiscriminate bombardment of Gazans. I ask that you withdraw your support for that portion of the funding requested from Congress. I also ask that you support efforts at the United Nations to end the bloodshed and demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and full humanitarian access.
