An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Keep labor statistics truthful!

23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing today to express my anger at President Trump’s unprecedented and unwarranted firing of Erika McEntarfer, the U.S. commissioner of Labor Statistics. This is a classic case of “shoot the messenger”, but more importantly it reflects the ever-deeper slide towards autocracy. When those responsible for giving the government accurate data are people who are incented to please the Great Leader, it becomes impossible to trust the data and know the truth. This allows our leaders to be more and more effective in gaslighting and manipulating the public. I hope and expect that you will take all necessary actions to resist this move by the President. Perhaps it is time for Congress to create an independent labor statistics commission that reports to the legislature?
