It’s not supposed to be this way. Growing up, we were told we could be anything if we worked hard in school. Now, as a Mom, I just want my kids to grow up alive. I have a 6 year old daughter and a 14 year old step-daughter and we live in a good school district with excellent teachers and administrators that love the kids and the community well. And yet, I feel I have no other choice but to homeschool my youngest daughter because even with the best teachers, faculty, and security, I cannot be 100% sure that my daughter is going to be safe at school. And if you are honest, no child in this country is safe. If it is this bad now when she is in Kindergarten, I cannot in good conscience let her continue in a mainstream education, despite how good it has been and how much we love it. I must point out that my ability to be able to work from home and homeschool my daughter is a privilege that many families simply do not have due to their jobs and/or finances. It is an option for me that many others would choose if they could.
We have a gun problem, and no one will address it.
I was 14 years old when Columbine happened. I am now almost 38 years old and this type of occurrence is not only more frequent but more deadly. Despite our security enhancements, active shooter training, and more Safety Officers and Police. The one thing we haven’t tried is the most obvious. Change the gun laws. Reinstate the assault weapons ban. Give us better background checks and keep guns out of the hands of children and anyone else that is not capable of being a responsible gun owner. I have guns in
