DUMB GETS DUMBER

Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas. Good lord. I am as sick of writing to you as you are hearing from me. So why oh why do you keep providing so much cause for outrage? It’s already bad enough that our Governor has shown his ignorance of female anatomy by declaring that no problem if you’ve been raped or forced to have sex with your daddy resulting in pregnancy, no worries. You’ll have six weeks to get it taken care of. Easy peasy. Now I see he followed up those remarks with the following bit of insanity. From the Daily Beast today. “Abbott then followed up on his [rape/incest] answer with a bizarre pivot. “Let’s make something very clear,” he said. “Rape is a crime. And Texas will work tirelessly to make sure we eliminate all rapists from the streets of Texas by aggressively going out and arresting them, and prosecuting them, and getting them off the streets.” The governor’s statement seemingly ignored that three out of four rapes are committed by someone known to the victim, and he offered no elaboration as to how exactly his administration would eliminate rapists from the streets before they have committed an actual rape. The men standing in a row behind Abbott burst into applause anyway.” Why the applause? Applauding because a woman, even though she’s pregnant by the worst scenario possible, can rest easy knowing that the Texas GOP will hunt down the perpetrator for her? Why? So he can pay child support? Because ultimately, hopefully, all rapists will be caught and punished. But what about the woman having to bear his child? Think it’s all good for her as long as he gets punished? I would say she will suffer not only from the rape but from a forced pregnancy to remind her of her horror every single day. What an unfair outcome for the mother. And the child who will be a constant reminder. And that deserves absolutely no feel good applause. For shame. Just a suggestion…”Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.”
