An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Protect the Dept of Education

9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I’m writing because I understand that President Trump plans to sign an executive order today calling for the dismantling of the U.S. Education Department. I am sick over this, but I’m also angry. Trump doesn’t have the authority to eliminate the Department of Education. The department is created by statute; changing a statute requires approval from Congress. So what are you doing to take your power back and protect this department? I’m sick of seeing Congress cede their power in these decisions. We have a Constitution. We have a system of laws. Congress needs to take its power back, protect our institutions, and protect public education, about which I care very deeply.
