Urgent Request Terminate 287(g) Agreements and End Local Cooperation with ICE

7 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

I am a resident of Virginia and I am writing to express my deep concern about the continued presence and impact of federal immigration enforcement partnerships — specifically 287(g) agreements — in our Commonwealth. According to ICE’s own records, there are currently 32 active 287(g) agreements in Virginia that authorize local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration law. These arrangements undermine public safety and community trust, damage relationships between law enforcement and immigrant communities, and contribute to fear and instability among families who live and work here. All Virginians deserve safety, dignity, and equal protection under the law. The ongoing expansion of immigration enforcement cooperation — especially when it leads to detention and deportation practices that harm families and separate communities — does not reflect those values. I believe these agreements should be ended immediately and permanently. While I appreciate actions taken by your administration so far — including executive orders that rescind prior directives requiring local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement — executive actions alone do not eliminate existing 287(g) contracts or prevent future agreements from being signed. Therefore, I respectfully urge you to take the following steps: Terminate all existing 287(g) agreements between ICE and local enforcement agencies in Virginia. Introduce and support legislation in the Virginia General Assembly that prohibits new 287(g) agreements and ends formal cooperation with ICE at the local level. Also, NO concentration camps on Virginis soil. Shut down all existing ones. Ensure that Virginia law prioritizes community trust and public safety over federal immigration enforcement contracts. Virginia should be a place where everyone can live, work, and participate in their communities without fear of enforcement actions that erode public safety and civic trust. I respectfully ask for your leadership to end 287(g) in our state. Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue. I appreciate your service to the Commonwealth and look forward to your response.
