Uphold Due Process: Bring Back Wrongfully Deported Venezuelans

It is deeply concerning to learn about the case of Arturo Suárez Trejo, a Venezuelan musician who was deported without due process to the infamous Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) prison in El Salvador. The summary deportation of Suárez and others based solely on having tattoos, without any evidence of criminal ties, represents a grave violation of their human rights and constitutional protections. Suárez fled the economic crisis in Venezuela and sought a better life in the United States, where he had no criminal record. Depriving him of the opportunity to challenge his labeling as a member of a terrorist organization and subjecting him to indefinite detention in inhumane conditions at CECOT is a miscarriage of justice. This egregious treatment raises serious concerns about the Trump administration's adherence to the rule of law and respect for due process. I urge you to use your authority to demand Suárez's immediate return to the United States, where he must be afforded a fair legal process and the chance to reunite with his wife and newborn daughter. Furthermore, all Venezuelans unlawfully deported to El Salvador should be repatriated and have their cases properly adjudicated. The United States must uphold its core democratic values and constitutional principles, even in the face of overblown security claims. Arturo Suárez Trejo and others like him deserve nothing less than the full protection of the law.
