An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Preserve Department of Education for equitable educational access

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The proposed dismantling of the Department of Education would be detrimental to students across the nation. Eliminating this federal agency responsible for overseeing educational policies, civil rights enforcement in schools, and the distribution of crucial funding like Pell grants and Title I aid to disadvantaged districts, would significantly impair access to quality education for millions of children. While states have a role in education, the Department helps ensure equitable standards and opportunities. Abolishing it risks exacerbating disparities, ballooning class sizes, undercutting services for students with disabilities, making college unaffordable, and eroding civil rights protections. I urge you to oppose any efforts to eliminate the Department of Education, which plays a vital role in safeguarding every child's right to learn.
