An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Uphold whistleblower protections, safeguard transparency and accountability

4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The Trump administration's attempt to secure Supreme Court approval for firing the head of the whistleblower protection agency is highly concerning. Whistleblowers play a vital role in safeguarding the public interest by exposing wrongdoing and holding those in power accountable. Allowing their dismissal without proper justification undermines this crucial mechanism of accountability and transparency. Dellinger emphasized the unprecedented number of recent firings without cause by the administration, highlighting the necessity of the agency's work. Removing protections for whistleblowers will inevitably have a chilling effect, discouraging individuals from coming forward with information about potential misconduct or illegal activities. It is imperative that we protect whistleblowers from retaliation and ensure the integrity of the whistleblower protection agency. Prioritizing executive power over the ability to uncover and address wrongdoing is antithetical to the principles of a democratic society. We urge the Supreme Court to uphold the agency head's right to due process and maintain the independence of this essential oversight body.
