Preserve Federal Courts Power

I am writing to urge you to take a firm stand in preserving the authority of our federal judiciary to enforce its rulings—particularly through the power to hold members of the executive branch in contempt when they defy lawful court orders. This foundational power is not a matter of politics but of constitutional balance. The judicial branch, as coequal under our Constitution, must be able to ensure that its decisions are respected and enforced, even—perhaps especially—when they are inconvenient to the executive. Without this power, court rulings become mere suggestions, eroding public confidence in the rule of law and the very integrity of our democracy. History teaches us that unchecked power leads to authoritarianism. Our courts have long stood as a bulwark against such erosion. Their ability to enforce compliance through contempt rulings—when faced with obstruction, delay, or outright defiance—must remain intact and unimpeded. Any effort by Congress or the executive to diminish or override the courts’ contempt powers would set a dangerous precedent, weakening judicial independence and threatening the separation of powers that defines our constitutional order. I respectfully ask that you publicly oppose any legislative or administrative efforts to curtail this essential judicial function and that you support measures affirming the courts’ rightful authority to enforce their decisions.
