We cannot accept reckless and unplanned cuts to USAID that destroy lives and waste decades of progress. In Zambia, a young girl named Diana, an AIDS orphan, was thriving on U.S.-funded HIV treatment until the clinics supporting her abruptly shut down. Her pastor scrambled to find food and medicine as she weakened. She is one of millions now left vulnerable because this administration gutted global health programs without any transition plan.
USAID has eliminated over 90% of its contracts since January. More than 5,200 programs have been axed, from HIV prevention to famine relief to climate aid. These cuts aren’t strategic—they are chaotic and cruel. Over 300,000 excess deaths have already been linked to the disruption. Former USAID officials and global health experts warn this mass dismantling of U.S. aid endangers lives, undermines national security, and hands global influence to rivals like China.
We demand immediate oversight and action. Congress must investigate these cuts and reinstate essential programs. Our courts must ensure that life-saving aid is not subject to reckless political whims.
This isn’t just a budget issue; it’s about moral responsibility, global stability, and American leadership. Lives are at stake, and so are our reputation and values.
