An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress; State Governors & Legislatures
PROTECT OUR DATA from Musk, his minions, and everyone else.
29 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
I am writing to demand immediate action regarding reports that aides to Elon Musk, operating under the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency," have restricted career civil servants' access to critical federal computer systems. These systems—including the Enterprise Human Resources Integration database at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), which contains sensitive personal data on millions of individuals—pose a direct risk to my own private data. My personal information is stored within these systems, making this unauthorized interference a direct threat to my privacy and security.
Even more alarming, reports indicate that Musk’s team attempted to gain access to Treasury Department payment systems, which process over $6 trillion annually in Social Security, Medicare, and other federal payments. Any unauthorized access to these systems puts every American's financial security at risk and must not be tolerated.
*Everyone* must act now. An immediate investigation into these actions is critical. There must be full transparency regarding any attempted or actual access, and swift measures must be taken to prevent private interference with federal systems. I also require confirmation that my personal data and financial records remain secure and uncompromised. Congress, the executive branch, regulatory agencies, and private entities must all take responsibility and work together to ensure this never happens again. Failure to act would be a dereliction of duty and an unacceptable betrayal of the public trust.
