How can you fully address the specific needs of our state and its residents without the full authority granted to you by the Constitution? In addition, Vought’s expressed willingness to defy Congressional spending directives is an alarming departure from established practices. This willingness to defy Congress, in my mind, should be immediately disqualifying. I would think his position advocating for the consolidation of power in the executive branch would be insulting to every member of Congress, including you. His confirmation risks setting a dangerous precedent that erodes legislative prerogatives.
As a public servant and a senator, you have a duty to safeguard democratic norms and principles. Allowing one branch to accumulate excessive power jeopardizes the balance so crucial to our republic’s health. I implore you to carefully consider both the short-term and long-term ramifications of empowering an agenda that so brazenly disregards separation of powers. Principled opposition to such alarming overreach is vital to sustaining accountable, transparent governance.
