Im writing to seek immediate action on Senate Bill S.3291(aka EAGLE Act) and H.R.6542 (aka Immigration Visa Efficiency and Security Act of 2023), to quickly clear out the unfair green card backlog that has trapped over 1M legal, tax-paying, law-abiding immigrants. The backlog exists due to an ill-conceived plan to apply per-country quotas based on country of origin/birth, which disproportionately impacts professionals from a few countries, some of whom have been stuck on the H1 visa conveyor belt for over a decade. In this "Country of Immigrants", the apathetic treatment of skilled, law-abiding taxpayers aspiring to become Americans, cannot continue. These backlogged folks are our friends, neighbors, family members, and the source of America's greatest competitive advantage. As a permanent resident/voter, Im disappointed with how little congress has done to fix this issue, and I insist we fix it quickly. I ask that you sponsor and fully support S.3291/H.R.6542.
