I am your constituent and I want you to know that a recent report by NPR detailed the data collected by Physicians for Human Rights about the state of pregnancy and birthing care in Louisiana. That state banned abortion and can sentence a doctor to 15 years in prison of one is performed. Here is a link to the report - read it. https://phr.org/our-work/resources/louisiana-abortion-bans/?utm_source=homepage
Patients with complicated pregnancies (ectopic and others) are now being left to become near death before they are treated. If a woman’s water breaks before the fetus is viable a C section is performed, instead of an abortion. This surgery carries significant risk for the woman and is what is in the best interest of the doctor avoiding jail and NOT in the patient’s best interest.
Wait, there’s more, many OB/GYNs don’t want to see a woman who is pregnant until she is 12 weeks along after many miscarriage risks have passed because they don’t want to be faced with the abortion issue if the pregnancy has issues. This delay of care is a danger to the baby and to the women involved.
I want you to know that these are primary voting issues for me I want you to work hard to pass
H.R. 12/S. 701 - The Women’s Health Protection Act - that restores abortion rights
H.R. 767/S.4467 - Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act
H.R. 4121/S. 1999 - Right to Contraception Act
and then since women are NOT EQUAL in about HALF OF THIS COUNTRY
Extend the deadline for The Equal Rights Amendment
Your loud public stand on these issues is critical.
