No pardon for George Floyd's murderer Derek Chauvin

I urge you in the strongest terms possible to reject calls to pardon Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd. Pardoning Chauvin would be an unconscionable injustice and a blatant violation of the rule of law. The video evidence clearly showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck for over 9 minutes, killing him in an act of horrific police brutality. Chauvin received a fair trial and was rightly convicted by a jury of his peers for this heinous crime. Pardoning murderers simply because they are police officers would send a dangerous message that law enforcement is above the law and that the lives of Black Americans do not matter. It would deeply undermine public trust in our justice system and the principle of equal protection under the law. A pardon for Chauvin's cruel actions would be an insult to Floyd's memory and a devastating blow to the movement against racist policing that his tragic death sparked. As leaders, we have a moral obligation to uphold justice and defend human rights, even for the most marginalized in society. Granting impunity to those who brutalize civilians would only further alienate and endanger Black communities who already face disproportionate police violence. I implore you to let Chauvin's lawful conviction stand and honor George Floyd's legacy by working to implement real police reforms and accountability measures. Pardoning his killer would be a stain on our nation's conscience.
