An open letter to State Legislatures (Maine only)

Property Tax Exemption for Labor Councils

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Today in Maine, Labor Councils are required to pay property tax, but their business equivalents, Chambers of Commerce, are exempt from paying such taxes! The only labor council in the state that owns property, the Eastern Maine Labor Council, is forced to contribute nearly 15% of its low annual income on property taxes, while the well-funded Chambers of Commerce across the state don't have to pay property tax. I am writing to ask you to support passage of the bill, LD 198, "An Act To Improve Maine's Tax Laws by Providing a Property Tax Exemption for Central Labor Councils" which would right this inequity. Thank you,
